Staff Positions

Under the direction of the Director of Philanthropy, the Director of Major Gifts is responsible for the Portland Museum of Art's (PMA's) major gifts program, including development and implementation of strategies to realize the current and lifetime giving potential of donors both in and outside of Maine. The Director of Major Gifts works collaboratively with museum staff and volunteers to ensure the PMA's success in building strong and long-lasting constituent relationships.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Protection Services and Security Supervisors and Officers, responsible for ensuring the security and safety of personnel and visitors, the museum’s collection, and the physical plant.  Performs a variety of security and security-related duties, provides information and assistance to museum visitors, and directs visitors and staff during emergency situations.

Volunteer Positions

Docents at the Portland Museum of Art play a vital role in introducing the museum and its collection to a wide variety of audiences through individualized, guided gallery experiences. Using interactive teaching methods, they encourage close looking, facilitate discussion in the galleries, and help visitors make personally meaningful connections with the collection. By supporting the programs and goals of the Learning and Interpretation department, volunteer docents serve as ambassadors for the museum by reinforcing the museum’s mission as a vital cultural center.
